Family Shelters
The Get Together Foundation's Casa de Vida
The Get Together Foundation’s Casa de Vida is a 48-bed, 90-day, family crisis shelter located in the West San Fernando Valley for families with children that can can comfortably house 12 families nightly.
All programs are staffed 24-hours a day seven days a week. Families have access to housing navigation case management, referrals to outside service providers for medical and mental health care, parenting classes, and can receive help finding child care and employment. Most of our families are headed by single mothers, and because 60 percent of these mothers have at one time fallen victim to domestic violence, our staff has special training on caring for these vulnerable families.
Our aim is to make all of our “houses” as welcoming and as comfortable as possible. This reduces stress on parents and children so they can settle into their new accommodations and routines quickly and begin the work to stabilize their crises and find, secure and retain permanent housing.
The Woodlands
Located in Woodland Hills, California, The Woodlands is a 100-unit, 400-bed facility for families experiencing homelessness. What was once a rundown motel is now a place of transformation for primarily women and children who have fallen on hard times.
At The Woodlands, families are offered three meals a day, peer support groups, tutoring, a calming room, a courtyard, and soon to be opened – a community center/daycare for mothers to comfortably leave their children as they enter the workforce.

The Sierras
The Alvarado
Just up the street from McArthur Park, The Alvarado Family Shelter provides 43 units and 172 beds for families experiencing homelessness. It is the first family shelter we opened under Project Home Key 2.0. You could never have imagined the previous condition of this facility. Before our renovation, the Mission’s Founder/CEO Ken Craft and President Rowan spent a night at the hotel; if you’d like to see firsthand what the motel consisted of, you can see the documented night here.
The Alvarado offers three meals a day, community partnership, case management, and so much more.
