Family Shelters

The Get Together Foundation's Casa de Vida

The Get Together Foundation’s Casa de Vida is a 48-bed, 90-day, family and children crisis shelter located in the West San Fernando Valley that can comfortably house 12 families nightly.

All programs are staffed 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Families have access to housing navigation case management, medical and mental health care referrals to outside service providers, parenting classes, and help finding child care and employment. Our staff is equipped with special training to care for these vulnerable families mostly headed by single mothers, 60% of whom fall victim to domestic violence.

Our aim is to make our houses as welcoming and comfortable as possible. Reducing this stress on parents and children settles them into their new accommodations and routines, so that we can quickly begin our work to stabilize their crises and find, secure, and retain permanent housing.

The Woodlands

Located in Woodland Hills, California, The Woodlands is a 100-unit, 400-bed facility for families experiencing homelessness. What was once a rundown motel is now a place of transformation for primarily women and children who have fallen on hard times.

At The Woodlands, families are offered three meals a day, peer support groups, tutoring, a calming room, a courtyard, and an upcoming community center/daycare for mothers to comfortably leave their children as they enter the workforce.

The Sierras

In the Antelope Valley, we were able to purchase two neighboring motels – the Sands Motel and the Tropic Motel located in Lancaster. Since then, we have combined the adjacent motels into one large, single complex for families experiencing homelessness. Measured at 14,733 square feet, this site consists of 38 units and 152 beds. Each unit is equipped with essential amenities, such as air conditioning and heating, mini-fridges, microwaves, and fully furnished bathrooms.

The Alvarado

Just up the street from McArthur Park, The Alvarado Family Shelter provides 43 units and 172 beds for families experiencing homelessness. It is the first family shelter we opened under Project Home Key 2.0. As warm and welcoming as we’ve remodeled this motel, you could never have imagined its previous conditions. Before our renovation, the Mission’s Founder/CEO Ken Craft and President Rowan Vansleve spent a full night at the hotel; if you’d like to see firsthand what the motel consisted of, you can see the documented night here.

The Alvarado offers three meals a day, community partnership, case management, and so much more.
